Moto-africa.com's "King of the Mountains" Motorcycle Adventure Tour departs from the historic Stellenbosch in the Western Cape and wind its way through South Africa's "Great Karoo" Platteland, all the way to the "Mountain Kingdom" of Lesotho.

We will ride Lesotho's numerous, most fantastic, steep and narrow, gravel passes, visit the awesome Maletsunyane Waterfall, Katse Dam, a civil engineering masterpiece and experience every day rural life before descending the steep Sani Pass into Kwa Zulu Natal. From the foothills of the Drakensberg, the King of Mountains Tour takes us over the Naude's Nek Pass (South Africa's highest pass) and the remote Bastervoetpad Pass, both rare biking experiences for discerning adventure riders.

We cruise down to the Eastern Cape coastline for a taste of the South African "Wild Coast", before approaching our final mountain pass highlight of the tour- the Baviaanskloof. The Baviaanskloof is a rare motorcycle gravel ride - winding up and down several, steep, mountain passes and crossing numerous rivers in the pristine Baviaans Valley. Too soon the tour comes to an end as we cruise through the Little Karoo down Route 62 to Cape Town.

We travel extensively on gavel roads of varying condition , steep mountain pass gradients, ever changing climate varying from blistering hot to snow in the high mountains, river crossings and more. Everything an adventure rider enjoys. Detailed Tour Itinerary - moto-africa.com King of the Mountains Motorcycle Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town - The Mother City and ready motorcycles for tour
Day 2: An early departure will see us on the way for a long day in the saddle through the beautiful Karoo to our rest stop in Burgersdorp.
Day 3: We ride to the Lesotho border at Telle Bridge. Once in Lesotho we will be treated to some fantastic mountain scenery and experience our first gravel travel of the Tour. We head into the mountains to Malealea, our overnight stop.
Day 4: Today is gravel travel delight, riding several narrow and steep passes. We visit the awesome Maletsunyana waterfall in the afternoon before riding to Semonkong, our rest stop for the day.
Day 5: Expect awesome vistas of the sweeping Lesotho countryside, valleys, rivers and glorious mountains which we will ascend and descend at regular intervals . We ride through the town of Roma and summit the "God-help-me Pass". From Thaba Tseka we follow the 60 km gravel road to Katse Dam for a well deserved rest.
Day 6: Our motorcycle ride to Sani Top is an adventure rider's delight. Beautiful vistas with numerous mountain passes. We crest the Black Mountain Pass at 3250m before descending to Sani Top, home of the highest pub in Africa. We overnight on the escarpment and toast a glass of famous Gluhwein to another, great, African adventure biking day.
Day 7: We grit our teeth whilst descending the steep Sani Pass. Back in South Africa, we meander the Drakensberg and Maluti mountain foot hills to Naude's Nek Pass, the highlight of our afternoon ride. We wind our way down the beautiful Naude's Nek Pass into the town of Rhodes, for a relaxing stop over.
Day 8: The Bastervoetpad Pass is our first riding assignment of the day. This Pass (or track) promises to be a rare off road, motorcycle adventure riding experience. We continue our journey to the "Wild Coast" where we will have a relaxing stay over next to the ocean.
Day 9: After a swim in the ocean, a leisure day's ride through the beautiful Eastern Cape.
Day 10: Enter the Baviaans Kloof - Our final "King of the Mountains Tour" highlight. A fantastic motorcycle adventure ride through pristine Baviaans Valley over steep mountain passes with several river crossings. (Visit our Baviaans Kloof Slide Show)
Day 11: We ride Route 62 through the beautiful Little Karoo. We arrive in Cape Town.
